Everything in this service and repair manual is written against the 2006 Lexus IS 350 as it was built — the 3.5L V6 (2GR-FSE) and the trim it left the line in — so the clearances, torque values and service intervals you work to are the ones Lexus published for the 2006 car, not a number carried over from an adjacent year or a different IS variant.

Known issues on the 2006 IS 350. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. One covers the wipers: inoperative wipers could reduce driver visibility and increase the risk of a vehicle crash. Three cover the passenger-side frontal air bag inflator module — two warn that an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, and the third that an inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. The last two are engine-side: micro-foreign objects in the material of the valve spring, where the engine could fail and stop suddenly while the vehicle is in motion, and loose bolts that could cause the VVT gear housing and sprocket to separate. Owners have filed 116 complaints for the year and Lexus has issued 79 technical service bulletins. The diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From a wiper system that has quit sweeping to a VVT gear inspection or a scheduled service on the 2GR-FSE, it holds you to the OEM procedure and the correct specification for this 2006 IS 350.
