Known issues on the 2005 Touareg. The federal record holds 2 recalls for the 2005 Touareg. The first involved certain gasoline-powered vehicles whose fuel filter flange could crack and let fuel escape, a fire risk near any ignition source; dealers checked the flange and either replaced it or fitted a protective cover. The second concerned certain vehicles in which the passenger belt retractors could drop out of their child-seat locking mode with certain child restraints, leaving that restraint loose in a crash; a clip was added to the rear outboard belts. Owners filed 75 complaints, led by Fuel/Propulsion System (16) and Electrical System (14), and 1 complaint reported an injury.
