Known issues on the 2005 Sierra 1500 HD. Eight recalls have been recorded federally. A power steering hose built out of specification could fracture under hard steering and leak, taking away power assist and, on hydro-boost trucks, brake assist as well. Retainer screws holding the fuel rail crossover tube were made off specification and could snap, leaking fuel at the joint; a stall follows, and any ignition source under the hood turns that leak into a fire. The shift lever position indicator could fail to illuminate at startup. Complaints total 448, with 122 on the electrical system, 118 on the service brakes and 52 on steering.
