Known issues on the 2001 Sierra 1500 HD. Seven recalls have been issued for this truck. A crankshaft position sensor could operate intermittently or stop working, causing rough running and stalls, sometimes with no restart until the engine had cooled. Parking brake friction linings could wear until the brake would no longer hold a parked truck. Where road salt attacks the chassis, the antilock system could switch itself on when nobody asked it to, lengthening low-speed stops. Complaints stand at 591, with 299 aimed at the service brakes, 49 at engine and engine cooling and 35 at the fuel system.
