2002 GMC Sierra 1500 HD Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 HD is built around one powertrain, the gasoline 364-cubic-inch 6.0L V8, naturally aspirated with overhead valves, in the four-door crew cab pickup, offered in SLE and SLT trim. With no engine or cab variations to reconcile, the specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostic routines can be followed straight through, which matters most on the chassis and brake work a heavy-duty half-ton attracts.

Known issues on the 2002 Sierra 1500 HD. Seven recalls appear on the federal record. Galvanized tailgate support cables could corrode, weaken and fracture, dropping the tailgate onto the rear bumper with any load still on it. Parking brake linings could wear until they no longer immobilized the truck. On examples converted to compressed natural gas, a throttle cable could rub through the pressurized fuel line and open a pinhole gas leak. Complaints run to 595, dominated by the service brakes at 325, with 36 on engine and engine cooling and 31 on steering.
