Known issues on the 2001 Prizm. The federal record carries one recall, and it involves replacement front strut mounts built without the weld joining the bearing housing to the rate plate — a strut can then come out of its mounting position under extreme driving and damage what is around it, with a crash the worst outcome. Complaints number 50, and the engine and cooling system dominates them at 15, well ahead of six on air bags and four on the structure. Cooling and engine mechanical work therefore deserve the closest reading, and both are given full procedures, specifications and diagnostics.
