Known issues on the 2000 Galant. Five recalls are on record. On certain 2000 Galant vehicles built with the six-cylinder to federal emission standards, the power steering feed tube could rub through against an exhaust heat shield, leaking fluid that could catch fire and draining assist; dealers fitted a rerouted tube. Certain 2000 Galant vehicles had column switch levers that could loosen or crack, upsetting turn signals, headlamps, washers and wipers. Certain 2000 Galant vehicles also had a steering gear nut left loose. Owners lodged 136 complaints, structure leading at 25 and the electrical system at 21; 16 reported a fire, 15 a crash and 11 an injury.
