Known issues on the 1999 88. The federal record holds 2 recalls for the 1999 88. On certain 1999 88 vehicles with the 3800 V6 (L36) and certain Delphi fuel pressure regulators, a leaking regulator could let fuel into the intake, and a backfire on a failed start could rupture the manifold and cause a fire; improved regulators were fitted. Certain 1999 88 vehicles with the 4T65E automatic were recalled because a clip could come loose and disconnect the shift link, so the indicated gear might not match the actual one. Dealers fitted a revised manual valve and link with a spring fastener, and the recall covered 99,333 vehicles. Of 76 complaints, 11 reported a fire and 1 an injury.
