Known issues on the 1998 88. There is 1 recall for the 1998 88. It covered certain 1998 88 vehicles with the 3800 V6 (L36) and certain Delphi fuel pressure regulators prone to leaking. Fuel could seep through a vacuum line into the intake manifold; if the engine then failed to start, a mistimed spark could set off a backfire strong enough to rupture the manifold and pull a fuel line and injector loose, leaking fuel with the chance of a fire. Dealers installed regulators with stronger diaphragms. Engine and engine cooling draws 76 of the 164 owner complaints, and among the full set, 9 reported a crash, 13 a fire and 5 an injury.
