Known issues on the 1998 Windstar. Eight recalls are on federal record for this model year, and the rear axle dominates them. Several campaigns cover corrosion that can weaken and fracture the rear axle, including one issued because reinforcement brackets from an earlier remedy were not always installed correctly. The speed control deactivation switch and its fire risk account for another, and front coil springs that can fracture and deflate a tire for a third.
