1997 Ford Windstar Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1997 Ford Windstar carries the specifications and procedures for both of the overhead-valve V6 engines listed that year, the 3.0L and the 3.8L. Coverage takes in the three-door and four-door passenger vans and the three-door cargo van, in four trims. Because the two engines share a great deal of the surrounding hardware, the book keeps common procedures together and splits out the values that differ, with torque figures, wiring diagrams and diagnostic routines given for the engine, transaxle, chassis and body electrical systems.

Known issues on the 1997 Windstar. Six recalls are on federal record for this year. One covers automatic transaxles whose low or intermediate servo cover can separate while the van is being driven, spilling fluid onto the catalytic converter and risking a fire. Another covers the speed control deactivation switch and its own fire risk. Front coil springs that can fracture from corrosion are the subject of two more. Owners have filed 220 complaints with NHTSA, spread fairly evenly over the power train, the suspension and the engine and cooling system. Transaxle overhaul, spring replacement and cooling diagnostics are all set out in this manual.
