1997 Geo Prizm Service and Repair Manual

Power steering became standard on the base 1997 Geo Prizm, and the 1.6L DOHC four-cylinder was retuned to 100 hp with five more pound-feet of torque. It was the last Prizm sold under the Geo name before Chevrolet took over for 1998. The sedan came in Base and LSi trims, with the 1.8L DOHC four-cylinder optional on the LSi. Known issues on the 1997 Prizm. Two recalls are on federal record: an equipment recall (10E002000) covering Gabriel and ArvinMeritor replacement front strut mounts built without the weld between bearing housing and rate plate; and an air bag recall (97V043002) because a mechanical shock to the air bag computer shortly after start-up can set off the bag. NHTSA also logs 53 owner complaints, most often about seat belts and air bags. Matching torque specifications and wiring diagrams in the manual help confirm these systems are right after service.
