Known issues on the 1992 Spirit. The recall recorded for this year involves steering. On certain 1992 Spirit sedans, zinc plating on the bolt at the upper steering shaft coupling left it brittle from hydrogen, so the bolt could fracture and let the coupling lose its clamp, taking away steering control. Dealers swapped in a phosphate-plated bolt. Owners filed 58 complaints, with the power train at 16, the electrical system and engine and cooling at 8, and hydraulic service brakes at 7; 4 complaints reported a crash, 4 a fire and 1 an injury.
