Known issues on the 1985 LTD. The 1985 LTD has three recalls on federal record. One is the aftermarket fuel pump campaign, a leak and fire risk. One covers heat shields omitted from the catalytic converter outlet pipes, which can run hot enough after hard use to ignite ground cover. The third concerns the brake booster, whose rear shell may be too thin and crack under repeated braking so the booster comes apart and braking is lost without warning. Owners have lodged 18 complaints with NHTSA, mostly on the electrical system, then seat belts and engine cooling.
