Known issues on the 1982 LTD. Two recalls are on federal record for the 1982 LTD. One concerns the rear suspension, where lower control arms may have been made from steel thinner than the minimum specified for police duty, which could allow cracks to develop. The other concerns the column shift, where an incorrect insulator may have been installed in the steering column shift lever that connects the transmission shift linkage.
