1983 Ford LTD Service and Repair Manual

Known issues on the 1983 LTD. Two recalls are on federal record for the 1983 LTD. One involves aftermarket fuel pumps whose diaphragm may have been improperly installed or inadequately tested and could leak, creating a fire hazard. The other concerns the automatic transmission, where a pin retaining parts of the park-actuating rod could break so that the parking gear does not engage even with the lever in Park. Owners have lodged five complaints with NHTSA, split between the electrical system, the power train and the engine and cooling.
