Rear brake caliper pistons finished with too little coating can develop gas pockets that soften rear braking, so the car needs more room to stop than the driver expects. Separately, a rear seat belt retractor may fail to lock when the webbing is pulled all the way out, which is the mode used to cinch a child seat down.
