Known issues on the 2013 MKZ. NHTSA holds 12 recalls for the 2013 MKZ. On certain 2013 MKZ vehicles, the front brake hoses could split and leak fluid, lengthening pedal travel and stopping distance; dealers replaced them. Certain vehicles exposed to road salt could see the bolts securing the electric power steering gear motor corrode and the motor separate from the housing, cutting assist. A component inside the door latches on certain vehicles could break, making doors hard to close or seem shut when they were not. Of 121 complaints, 19 involve steering, 18 the electrical system and 13 seat belts; 4 reported a crash and 3 a fire.
