Known issues on the 2011 MKZ. Owners lodged 185 complaints on the 2011 MKZ, led by the air bags with 84 and steering with 32; 12 complaints reported a crash. Of the 5 recalls, a steering campaign applies to certain 2011 MKZ vehicles with the hybrid powertrain, whose electric power steering assist could shut off after a steering motor sensor fault, making low-speed steering heavier. On certain vehicles that had received a replacement passenger air bag in an earlier recall, the bracket holding the inflator could deform in a deployment and let the inflating gas escape.
