Known issues on the 2011 E550. The federal record holds three recalls for the 2011 E550. Two involved certain convertible and coupe versions sold or ever registered in a named group of states and territories, where the passenger air bag inflator could rupture and scatter metal fragments. In the third, certain 2011 E550 vehicles had a driver air bag inflator that could break apart when it fired. Against the 2011 E-Class line, NHTSA filed two recalls: certain convertible and coupe vehicles could lose power steering fluid, and certain vehicles built July 8 through July 12, 2010 had an engine damper ring that could fly loose and hit someone working near it. Of 60 complaints on this model year, 32 cite air bags and 19 the suspension; two reported a crash and one an injury.
