Known issues on the 2009 Venza. Seven recalls are on federal record for this model year. One covers the accelerator pedal, which can stick open and result in very high vehicle speeds that make the vehicle difficult to stop. A second covers the frontal air bag sensing module, filed because the front passenger seat occupant sensing system can be out of calibration. A third covers the side curtain air bags, where damaged wires may cause the air bag sensor to become inoperable. A fourth covers the brake light switch, since inoperative brake lights would not warn other drivers that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. Two more are labeling recalls tied to the tire selection and rims standard, one filed because a driver may overload a vehicle and increase the risk of a crash, the other because the label does not meet the standard requirements. The seventh covers the front seat heaters, whose copper strand heating element may short circuit if damaged and increase the risk of a fire. Owners have filed 227 complaints against the year and Toyota has published 100 technical service bulletins.
