The 5.0L V8 is common to both: gasoline-fueled, naturally aspirated, with single overhead camshafts. Known issues on the 2006 S500. NHTSA filed a single recall against the 2006 W220-chassis models. It covered certain vehicles fitted with active body control acceleration sensors on the front struts; uneven soldering on the sensor boards could make the struts disagree, so one side of the front suspension would adjust and the other would not. Dealers inspected the sensors and replaced them where needed. Owner complaints on the 2006 S500 number eleven, with four on the engine and three each on the powertrain and electrical system. Suspension sensor procedures, engine diagnostics and wiring diagrams are all covered.
