Known issues on the 2004 S500. NHTSA filed five recalls against wider groupings. Four name the 2004 S-Class line, including one for certain vehicles that received incorrect software calibration coding during a workshop visit, which could stop the fuel pump from shutting off after a crash; dealers recoded it. A trunk lid recall for the same line covered certain vehicles whose springs could fail with the lid closed. The fifth, for the 2004 W220-chassis models, concerned certain vehicles with active body control front strut acceleration sensors prone to soldering flaws. The S500 has 16 owner complaints, eight electrical; one reported a crash, one a fire and two an injury. The 2004 S-Class line adds nine. Fuel system wiring diagrams and diagnostics are covered.
