Known issues on the 2005 S500. NHTSA filed two recalls against larger groups. Under the 2005 S-Class line, certain vehicles had instrument clusters prone to electrical faults that could leave the gauges unlit and the speedometer hard to read, and dealers swapped the cluster modules. Under the 2005 W220-chassis models, certain vehicles carrying acceleration sensors for active body control on their front struts could have poor solder joints, letting one strut adjust while its partner stayed put. Eleven owner complaints name the S500, seven electrical and two each on hydraulic brakes and the powertrain; one reported a crash. Instrument wiring diagrams and suspension diagnostics are included.
