Known issues on the 2006 E500. Four recalls name the 2006 E500, and the sunroof is the common thread: on certain vehicles the bond between the glass and the sliding roof frame could degrade, or the panel might not have been secured, letting the glass break free while driving. Separately, NHTSA filed one recall against the 2006 E-Class line, involving certain vehicles given incorrect software coding in the shop that could keep the fuel pump from shutting down after a collision. Owners submitted 48 complaints, mostly fuel and propulsion (15) and the gasoline fuel system (14), plus wheels (4); 1 complaint reported a crash and 1 an injury. Sliding roof service, fuel system specifications and wiring diagrams are covered in the manual.
