Known issues on the 2005 Freestar. Four recalls stand on the federal record. One covers the torque converter output shaft, whose failure causes a sudden loss of drive. Another concerns power liftgates: the motor disengages once the gate is open, so a failing strut lets the gate fall freely on anyone beneath it. A third involves third row seats that may not latch.
