This factory service and repair manual for the 2005 Chevrolet C4500 Kodiak lists six order codes — C4C042, C4C044, C4E042, C4E044, C4U042 and C4V042 — against three body types: two-door conventional cab and chassis, crew cab and chassis, and cutaway chassis. Both available engines are covered, the 6.6-liter turbocharged diesel of 403 cubic inches and the 8.1-liter gasoline V8 of 496. The spread of codes reflects how many ways this chassis could be specified before a body went on behind the cab.

Known issues on the 2005 C4500 Kodiak. Two recalls touch the 2005 chassis, and both concern equipment fitted after the truck left Chevrolet. In one, a protection diode in an aftermarket wheelchair lift interlock can be overwhelmed by voltage spikes and fail, which allows the vehicle to be driven while the lift is still deployed and someone is using it. In the other, the lateral control bracket of an aftermarket rear air suspension has cracked, and a fracture there degrades handling to the point of losing control. Two complaints exist, one on the service brakes and one on the seat belts — both systems specified here.
