Two engines were on offer, the turbocharged 6.6-liter diesel of 403 cubic inches and the 8.1-liter gasoline V8 of 496, and the manual separates their fuel, ignition and cooling material while treating the chassis beneath them as common.

Known issues on the 2004 C5500 Kodiak. A single owner complaint is recorded against the 2004 Kodiak, and it concerns the fuel system. That is a narrow signal, but fuel work on this chassis is anything but narrow: the manual documents tank, lines and filtration for both engines, along with the injection pump, glow plug circuit and turbocharger diagnosis the 6.6-liter diesel requires and the fuel delivery and ignition specifications for the 8.1-liter gasoline V8. Torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostic charts accompany each of those procedures.
