Known issues on the 2003 Alero. NHTSA has filed two recalls against the 2003 Alero. The first reached certain 2003 Alero vehicles, 92,863 vehicles, where in hot weather the accelerator pedal arm could bind at its bracket and fail to return to idle when the driver lifted off. The second covered certain 2003 Alero vehicles whose ignition switch could slip out of run from key ring weight or a jolt, stalling the engine and possibly disabling the air bags. There are 184 owner complaints, 103 on the electrical system and 24 on air bags. Within that total, a crash appears in 18 complaints, an injury in 9, a fire in 1 and a death in 1.
