Known issues on the 2003 CL500. Exterior lighting is the subject of the one owner complaint logged for the 2003 CL500. NHTSA filed three recalls against wider groupings. Two were filed against the 2003 CL-Class line: certain vehicles could rust inside the steel core of the Active Body Control high-pressure line and seep fluid near the catalytic converter, a fire hazard, while certain others had trunk lid springs that could give out and let a hand-raised lid drop. The third, against 2003 C215-chassis models, covered certain cars equipped with Active Body Control front-strut acceleration sensors whose solder joints could leave the front end sitting unevenly.
