Known issues on the 2003 Ascender. Five recalls are on federal record. They cover a mechanical override that let the key come out or the shifter leave Park contrary to the theft-protection standard, an owner's manual that failed to explain the child-seat anchor symbols, windshield wipers and washers that could stop, run on their own or pump continuously because of moisture in the wiper module, and turn signals that could flash like hazard lamps. A fifth recall covers rear side door latches that can corrode shut or fail to latch in salt-belt states. NHTSA has also logged 35 owner complaints, most often about the electrical system and exterior lighting.
