This factory service and repair manual for the 2002 GMC Sierra 3500 has to serve pickups and chassis cabs alike, from a 2-door standard cab pickup and a 4-door crew cab or extended cab pickup through to 4-door and 2-door cab and chassis versions. Three engines were offered, a 6.6L turbocharged diesel V8 of 403 cubic inches, a naturally aspirated 6.0L gasoline V8 of 364 cubic inches and a naturally aspirated 8.1L gasoline V8 of 496 cubic inches, across Base, SL, SLE and SLT trims. Procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics are given per system.

Known issues on the 2002 Sierra 3500. Seven recalls are on the federal record. Parking brake friction linings can wear until the brake no longer immobilizes a parked truck. Tailgate support cables can corrode, weaken and eventually fracture, dropping the tailgate onto the bumper. And on trucks converted to natural gas, a throttle cable could rub through the pressurized fuel line and open a pinhole leak. Owner complaints run to 595, with 325 on service brakes, 36 on engine and cooling and 31 on steering. Parking brake adjustment, brake hydraulics and fuel line routing are all set out in this manual with their torque values.
