This factory service and repair manual for the 1998 Ford Contour covers seven trims of the 4-door sedan, from Base, GL and LX through Power, SE and Sport to the SVT, on two DOHC engines: the naturally aspirated 2.5L V6 and the 2.0L inline-four, the latter listed on gasoline or as a bi-fuel gasoline/LPG engine. With a bi-fuel four in the range, the fuel system procedures cover the gasoline and LPG sides separately, and the engine specifications and torque values are given for each displacement. Known issues on the 1998 Contour. Eight recalls stand against the 1998 Contour on federal record. Two of them concern the front coil springs, which can fracture from corrosion and deflate a tire. Another covers the air bag sensor wiring pigtail, whose insulation can crack from water and underhood heat near the radiator, lighting the air bag warning lamp and disabling the system. Owners have filed 968 complaints with NHTSA, the largest groups being the engine and cooling system at 132, the power train at 115 and the electrical system at 110.
