1996 Ford Contour Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1996 Ford Contour covers six trims of the 4-door sedan, Base, GL, LX, Power, SE and Sport, and two DOHC engines. The 2.5L V6 runs on gasoline, and the 2.0L inline-four is listed on gasoline or as a bi-fuel gasoline/LPG engine, which adds a second fuel system to the four-cylinder procedures. Specifications and torque values are set out per engine, the wiring diagrams cover the sedan's electrical system across the trim range, and the diagnostics extend to the power train and the cooling system on both engines.

Known issues on the 1996 Contour. The 1996 Contour carries eight recalls on federal record. Three concern heat and fire: the cooling fan motor can overheat as its bearings tighten, the heater blower resistor can overheat and melt its connector, and the resistor's rough blades can damage the wiring harness connector and cause arcing. Owners have filed 640 complaints with NHTSA, led by the engine and cooling system at 126, the electrical system at 95 and the power train at 66. Cooling, heater and brake procedures and the wiring diagrams in this manual address those areas.
