Known issues on the 1990 323. Grease on the contacts inside the ignition switch is behind one of the 2 recalls for the 1990 323: on certain vehicles it could become conductive and overheat, creating a fire risk, and dealers replaced the switch. The second applies to certain vehicles whose front seats have automatic shoulder belts: the rail could wear until the cable retracting the buckle jammed and the belt stopped working. Dealers replaced the belt assembly with a modified one where a problem had occurred, and otherwise inspected the rails and fitted modified rails where they exceeded the inspection limits. Thirteen of the 19 complaints concern seat belts; a crash was reported in 4. Electrical system wiring diagrams and body procedures apply to both recalls.
