This factory service and repair manual for the 1990 Chevrolet Corsica lists a 3.1L overhead-valve V6 of 189 cubic inches and a 2.2L overhead-valve inline-four of 134 cubic inches, both naturally aspirated and gasoline-fueled, under either a four-door sedan or a four-door hatchback in LT and LTZ trim. Known issues on the 1990 Corsica. Two recalls appear on the federal record. One again concerns front shoulder belt retractors whose lock-up is not sensitive enough to catch in a sudden deceleration, so a belted occupant ends up restrained by the lap portion alone. The other is a documentation defect: owner literature issued without the rear center seat belt information the standard requires. Complaints run to 79, weighted toward seat belts at 18, the electrical system at 17, and engine and engine cooling at 10 — restraint hardware, circuit tracing and cooling diagnosis all covered by procedures here.
THE FRONT SHOULDER BELT RETRACTORS MAY HAVE REDUCED SENSITIVITY OF THE LOCK-UP FEATURE AND WOULD NOT FUNCTION IN A SUDDEN DECELERATION OR CRASH.
