1986 Ford Ranger Service and Repair Manual

Known issues on the 1986 Ranger. The federal record shows five recalls for the 1986 Ranger. Power lumbar seat wiring was routed under the cushion springs where it could be abraded into a short circuit and a fire, the engine control wiring harness could have insulation damaged by copper spikes left from welding, and a spring lock fuel line coupling could be left improperly engaged and let go under pressure and vibration. Owners have logged 42 complaints with NHTSA, 14 of them electrical, with seat belts and the engine drawing seven each.
