- Base Coupe 2-Door
Known issues on the 1983 944. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the rear seat belts, which were built without emergency-locking or automatic-locking retractors and failed to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208 for occupant crash protection. The second covers the rear suspension spring plates: they may not have been properly tempered or hardened, and could crack or break, affecting lateral guidance of the rear wheel and resulting in loss of control of the car. Owners have filed 3 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged for the 1983 944. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind both systems are here.
From a rear seat belt inspection to a rear suspension check on the spring plates, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 1983 944.
THE REAR SEAT BELTS DO NOT INCLUDE EMERGENCY-LOCKING OR AUTOMATIC-LOCKING RETRACTORS. THE BELTS DO NOT COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, "OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION".
