The 2019 Ascent has 9 recalls on the federal record and 441 owner complaints, led by the electrical system (160), power train (88) and visibility/wiper (66); 10 complaints reported a crash, 6 a fire and 4 an injury. On certain 2019 Ascent vehicles, a ground bolt on the PTC heater that may be poorly fastened can let the terminal melt and start a fire; owners were told to park outside, away from structures, until dealers replaced the bolts. Certain 2019 Ascent vehicles have a Transmission Control Unit programming error that may let the clutch engage before the drive chain is fully clamped, so the chain can slip and break; the fix is for dealers to reprogram the TCU.
