Known issues on the 2018 A5. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. Oxidation on the Passenger Occupant Detection System connecting cable can cause the software to misdiagnose a malfunction and disable the passenger air bag, leaving it unavailable in a crash. A separate recall covers a passenger air bag module mounting screw that may not have been sufficiently tightened, which can affect deployment. A third covers front suspension fasteners that may not have been sufficiently tightened during production, which can let a front wheel work loose. A fourth covers head curtain air bag assemblies built so they may not unfold properly, increasing occupant injury risk in a crash. A fifth covers aluminum door trim around the front and rear speakers that can come loose and expose sharp edges. The sixth covers a contact fault in the cable connecting the seat heater to the Passenger Occupant Detection System, which can likewise cause the software to misdiagnose a malfunction and disable the passenger air bag. Owners have filed 7 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
Whether you're inspecting the front suspension fasteners, checking the PODS wiring, or working through a routine service interval, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and correct specification for your specific 2018 A5.
