2017 Kia Forte Service and Repair Manual
Kia sold the 2017 Forte in one engine configuration across seven trim levels, and this factory service and repair manual is matched to that exact year, engine and trim range — so every specification and service sequence it gives is the one Kia published for this car, not a close-enough figure carried over from a neighboring model year.
Engines covered
- 2.0L inline-four (122 cu in) — DOHC, naturally aspirated, gasoline
Body styles covered
- 4-door sedan
- 4-door hatchback
Trims covered
- EX
- L
- LX
- S
- SX
Known issues on the 2017 Forte. Three recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the air bags: the cover of the Air Bag Control Unit can make contact with a memory chip, and air bags that do not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury in a crash. The second covers the oil pump on Fortes with the 2.0L Nu MPI engine, where foreign particles can stick inside the pump and cause it to fail — a damaged engine may stall, increasing the risk of a crash. The third covers the trunk lid latch, which can become damaged; a person inside the trunk compartment may become trapped, increasing their risk of injury. Owners have filed 427 complaints for the year and Kia has issued 100 technical service bulletins. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are in this manual.
From an oil pump inspection on the 2.0L to an air bag system diagnostic or a scheduled service interval, it holds you to the procedure and the correct specification Kia wrote for your 2017 Forte.
Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Sedona, Soul, Soul EV, 2017-2018 Forte, and 2017 Forte Koup vehicles. The Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) cover may contact a memory chip on the printed circuit board and damage the electrical circuit. Circuit damage may result in deactivated air bags that will not deploy in a crash.
Air bags that do not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Dealers will inspect the ACU, and either update the software or replace the unit, as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 21, 2022. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC226.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 401, "Internal Trunk Release."
