Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 Mazda3 and Mazdaspeed3 vehicles manufactured November 18, 2008, to June 8, 2013, 2012-2015 Mazda5 vehicles manufactured October 26, 2010, to June 22, 2015, 2016 CX-3 vehicles manufactured June 1, 2015, to December 26, 2015, and 2013-2016 CX-5 vehicles manufactured December 15, 2011, to December 26, 2015. On the affected vehicles, the lift gate support struts may corrode, possibly causing the struts to break and/or the lift gate to drop unexpectedly.
Consequence
If the lift gate falls unexpectedly, it may hit the user, increasing their risk of injury.
Remedy
Mazda dealers will replace the both lift gate supports, free of charge, however parts are not currently available. The recall began April 2017. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 9916H.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 MAZDA 5. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHEST FROM THE SEAT BELT, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
I HAVE GONE TO MULTIPLE MECHANICS WITH NO HELP. MY VEHICLE SURGES OR REVS ANY TIME THE AC IS ON TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD EVEN WHEN MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL MAZDA FORUMS AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING ISSUE WTH THIS VEHICLE. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO HIT A WALL (I WAS SLOWING DOWN, COMING INTO A PARKING SPAC
THE EMERGENCY BRAKES OF MAZDA 5 DO NOT WORK. MY CAR SLID OFF WHILE PARKED AND CRASHED AGAINST A MAILBOX. BOTH CAR AND MAILBOX WERE DAMAGED. All of the door handles and locks have loosened and fallen off. Sliding door will not latch now. Hatch on rear has lost suspension.

THE TCM FAILED ON THE CAR AND IT IS A VERY COMMON THING. THE DESIGN SET THE MODULE IN A LOCATION THAT OVERHEATS AND MALFUNCTIONS WHEN CONNECTION IS LOST WITH MECHANISMS THAT WARP UNDER HEAT, THE COST TO REPAIR AT THE DEALERSHIP WAS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE
