Known issues on the 2011 Grand Vitara. Four recalls are on federal record. In one, on four-cylinder models the accessory drive belt tensioner spring can break, letting the belt slip or come off and causing overheating, a charging warning or a stall. In another, the passenger-seat occupant classification sensor mat can fail from repeated flexing, so the airbag deploys whoever is seated. In a third, on manual-transmission models the gear shift rear shaft can break, leaving the gearbox unable to change gears. In a fourth, the front passenger leather seat cover can shrink in heat and humidity and confuse the occupant classification sensor.
