Known issues on the 2010 Grand Vitara. Five recalls are on federal record. In one, Garmin nuvi 750, 760 and 765 navigation units supplied with the vehicle have batteries that can overheat. In another, on four-cylinder models the accessory drive belt tensioner spring can break, letting the belt slip or come off and causing overheating, a charging warning or a stall. In a third, the passenger-seat occupant classification sensor mat can fail from repeated flexing, so the airbag deploys whoever is seated. In a fourth, on manual-transmission models the gear shift rear shaft can break, leaving the gearbox unable to change gears. Beyond those, the front passenger leather seat cover can shrink in heat and humidity and confuse the occupant classification sensor.
