2006 GMC C5500 Topkick Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 2006 GMC C5500 Topkick documents six trim codes and four body configurations — the 2-door conventional cab and chassis, the crew cab and chassis, the motorhome cutaway and the cab and chassis cutaway — with a choice of two engines. The diesel is the turbocharged 6.6L overhead-valve V8 of 403 cubic inches; the gasoline engine is the naturally aspirated 8.1L overhead-valve V8 of 496 cubic inches. Coverage is by system, so engine, chassis and electrical procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics can be followed whatever body the truck carries.

Known issues on the 2006 C5500 Topkick. Four recalls are on the federal record for the 2006 C5500 Topkick, all of them on equipment added to the chassis. A ball-hitch channel welded to a service-body bumper could be attached with too little weld and bend or tear away under load. Roll-stop latches on a wheelchair lift could bend out of alignment until an occupant rolled over them and fell from a raised platform. A cracked lateral control bracket on an aftermarket rear air suspension could spoil handling. One owner complaint, on engine and engine cooling, rounds out the record, and the engine sections here carry the matching specifications and diagnostics.
