Known issues on the 2004 Envoy XL. The only recall recorded for this year concerns tail and stop lamp bulbs that could loosen in their sockets as heat and vibration worked on them, flickering and eventually going out, so a following driver would see no brake or turn signal. Owner complaints run to 718, and the electrical system accounts for 290 of them, well ahead of the fuel-related reports behind it. Lighting circuits, grounds, fuel delivery and injection diagnostics all sit within this manual's coverage, backed by complete wiring diagrams.
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, VIBRATION AND HEAT MAY CAUSE THE TAIL LAMP/STOP LAMP BULB TO LOOSEN IN ITS SOCKET. IF THIS OCCURS, THE BULB MAY FLICKER AND EVENTUALLY BECOME INOPERATIVE.
Consequence
AN INOPERATIVE BRAKE LAMP WILL NOT CONVEY THE DRIVER'S INTENTION OF STOPPING TO DRIVERS IN FOLLOWING
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TAIL LAMP/STOP LAMP ASSEMBLIES, AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THEM. THE RECALL
