Known issues on the 2002 Envoy XL. Three recalls attach to the 2002 Envoy XL. Rear side door latches exposed to road splash and salt could corrode until they would neither latch nor release, leaving a door able to swing open in motion. Heat and vibration could work tail and stop lamp bulbs loose in their sockets, so they flickered and then went dark. Moisture in the wiper modules brought a third campaign, with wipers that might not run at all or a washer pump that would not stop. Of 575 owner complaints, the powertrain and engine cooling draw the most, and both are documented here at length.
