Known issues on the 2002 ML320. The federal record lists one recall under the 2002 ML320's own name: on certain vehicles the left front upper control arm might fall short of its strength specification and could break, so dealers replaced it. Separately, NHTSA filed five recalls against the 2002 M-Class line, among them one for certain vehicles fitted with Dunlop SP5000 tires whose tread could separate from the sidewall around the whole circumference. Owners filed 94 complaints about this model year, most often about steering (26), the electrical system (20) and service brakes (15); 8 complaints reported a fire and 4 a crash.
