Known issues on the 1998 ML320. NHTSA filed four recalls against the 1998 M-Class line. Two concerned a weak clamp on the power steering cooler hose of certain M-Class line vehicles, which could let fluid escape, fade steering assist and damage the pump. Another covered certain M-Class line sport utility vehicles whose seat belt latches were misassembled and could release. The fourth, a 42-vehicle campaign, replaced incorrect certification labels on certain M-Class line sport utility vehicles.
