Known issues on the 2002 Avalanche 1500. Four recalls are on the federal record for this truck. One concerns the antilock brake system activating when it should not, most often where road salt is used, which stretches stopping distances during low-speed braking. Another covers galvanized tailgate support cables that corrode, weaken and eventually fracture, dropping the tailgate under anyone sitting on it. The others involve a leak-prone replacement fuel filter and nonconforming replacement lamps.
